Important Federal Deadlines for Individuals

January 15, 2025

Fourth Quarter 2024 Estimated Tax Payment Due
If you're self-employed or have other income that requires quarterly tax payments, your Q4 2024 payment must be postmarked by January 15, 2025.

April 15, 2025

First Quarter 2025 Estimated Tax Payment Due
2024 Individual Tax Returns Due

Most taxpayers must file or e-file federal tax returns by midnight on April 15.

Last Day to Make a 2024 IRA Contribution
This is the final deadline to contribute to your Traditional IRA or Roth IRA for the 2024 tax year.

Deadline to File for Extension
If you need more time to file your 2024 return, submit Form 4868 by April 15 to extend your filing deadline to October 15, 2025.

June 16, 2025

Second Quarter 2025 Estimated Tax Payment Due
(Note: June 15 falls on a Sunday, so the deadline shifts to Monday, June 16.)

September 15, 2025

Third Quarter 2025 Estimated Tax Payment Due.

October 15, 2025

Extended 2024 Individual Tax Returns Due.
If you filed an extension, this is your final deadline to submit your 2024 tax return.

Note: Tax deadlines that fall on weekends or federal holidays are extended to the next business day. The IRS may also adjust deadlines in response to economic or emergency conditions.

Special Extension for Maine & Massachusetts

Due to Patriots’ Day (April 21, 2025) and Emancipation Day (April 16, 2025), residents of Maine and Massachusetts have until April 17, 2025, to file their Form 1040.
